Loyola High School of Los Angeles' winter Junior Leadership Retreat was held at the beautiful Franciscan Serra Retreat House in Malibu on November 29 and 30, 2012. There were thirty-two juniors, two senior leaders, and five faculty leaders at the retreat center that was shrouded in the mist and clouds of an uncharacteristically rainy two days. For Mr. Mason, Mr. Goepel, and Mr. McClave, it was the tenth or eleventh retreat. Mr. Bodensteiner joined the faculty team for the first time. Fr. Stephen Barber, S.J. has participated in countless retreats and conducted the concluding liturgy. The young men assumed ownership of the retreat and turned it into a positive spiritual experience for everyone.

The nickname for the retreat has been the MGM Grand for Mason, Goepel, McClave. This year a B was added for Bodensteiner.
Always a highlight of the retreat is Mr. Mason's talk, the reflection, and the making of masks to illustrate an individual's dual personas (public and private, if you will). Boys can be quite creative in the 20 or 30 minutes they have for the activity. Thursday, November 29, 2012
Retreatants are divided into three small groups for some of activities. Here are the McClaveans--Michaels (2), Harrison, Vincent, Cruz, Chris, James, Jordan, Keaton, Stephen, and William.

Mr. Mason gives tips on another aspect of program, standing in front of student masks, which boys had just completed. Thursday, November 29, 2012
